Dr. Vincent Wyatt Howell is the Associate Dean of the Doctor of Ministry Program. He joined the Hood staff in 2020. His major research interest focuses on applied and scholarly theological perspectives of leadership in the church for clergy and lay church leaders.
Ordained as an Elder in the AME Zion Church in 1986, Dr. Howell is has served as a pastor in both the African Methodist Episcopal Zion and the United Methodist Churches. He retired from pastoral ministry in 2021. During his pastoral service, his ministry included growing church membership, leading congregations (3) to liquidate facility mortgages, and church and community engagement. During his pastorate at Centenary United Methodist Church, Clemmons, NC, he was the founding leader of Clemmons Lewisville Actions for Student Success (formerly the Interfaith Alliance of Clemmons and Lewisville) whose mission he has served.
His published work includes Managing Ministry Projects, and MBA Quick Book for Ministers (co-written with his son) both published by Judson Press, as well as a number of articles and podcast related to leadership and applying project management in the church. As an adjunct professor of management in the graduate school at Elmira College, Dr. Howell taught strategic management, business ethics, and planning and project management. He also served as the Site Coordinator for the School of Christian Leadership, Elmira, NY satellite, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
Salve Regina University honored him with the Distinguished Graduate Alumnus Award in 2010.In 2024, the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School awarded him with the “Distinguished Alumni Award.” Vincent earned a Doctor of Ministry from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit, MI. He also holds a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University and is a graduate of the Executive Program at Rochester Institute of Technology. As a bi-vocational minister, Vincent has been an engineering and manufacturing manager in international technology corporate settings. He has also lived in Japan and the Republic of China (Taiwan). He is a Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Dr. Howell and his wife Carolyn are parents of two adult children and have two grandchildren and one daughter -in -love.
