Specialization Electives
Specialization Electives – As noted in the Overview section, students can complete their Doctor of Ministry and specialize in a specific ministry area. These specializations include Leadership Ministry, Pastoral Theology and Care, Homiletics and Preaching, Community Advocacy and Social Justice, and General. Based on your specialization, students are required to complete three (3) elective courses in their specialization. In addition to these three electives, students are required to complete PTH 415, Research Methodology and a Biblical Studies or Theology and Social Ethics course. The final elective is chosen by the student. Students pursuing a General Doctor of Ministry complete 4 electives of their choice along with PTH 415, Research Methodology and a Biblical Studies or Theology and Social Ethics elective.
Electives are offered during Intensive Weeks (often referred to as J-term) which are typically in July or January. Elective classes are typically held for 1 week, and are held in the morning (8am – 12noon) or in the afternoon (1pm –5pm). This format will allow a student to complete 2 classes over a one (1) week period.
Lastly, students take two (2) electives each J-Term.
