Dr. Fennell is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B. A. in Political Science. She earned a Master of Divinity degree at the Wake Forest School of Divinity where she was named the 2007 recipient of The Ashley and Whitney Walker Award, an honor given to students who demonstrate academic excellence with a particular concern for woman-centered issues. She continued her theological training by earning a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in 2017 with a concentration in leadership development, and studied ways in which faith communities can effectively develop leaders via the use of pastoral care modalities.
During the course of her academic studies, Dr. Fennell developed a passion for helping the universal church, and the broader community, address not only spiritual concerns, but emotional concerns as well. With this mission in mind, she received training in pastoral care and counseling in the Department of Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E) at North Carolina Baptist Medical Center where she completed 4 units of C.P.E training. While working towards her D. Min., she ambitiously and concurrently earned a Master of Social Work degree from the joint MSW program offered through the North Carolina A&T State University and the University of North Carolina Greensboro collaborative, where she studied Clinical Social Work Practice. As a result, she holds dual licensure as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist and a Licensed Clinical Social Work practitioner.
She currently works as a Child and Family Therapist in the Clinical Services Unit at the Forsyth County Department of Social Services in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Fennell also serves as an ordained associate minister of the Greater Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
