Community Advocacy and Social Justice
Community advocacy and social justice ministries are essential components of the church's mission, as they embody the call to love and serve others (Micah 6:8). By actively engaging in social justice issues, churches can address systemic inequalities and advocate for marginalized people, reflecting the values of compassion and justice found in scripture. This ministry not only helps to meet immediate needs within the community but also empowers congregants to live out their faith through action. By promoting awareness and encouraging involvement, churches can inspire transformative change, fostering a more equitable society and demonstrating the relevance of faith in addressing real-world challenges.
The Doctor of Ministry with specialization in Community Advocacy and Social Justice Ministry is designed to provide advanced theological training for persons committed to social justice ministry and community / political advocacy on behalf of marginalized persons and communities. The specialization also equips persons with practical tools for mobilizing Christian congregations for social justice work. Unique Characteristics of the Community Advocacy and Social Justice Ministry Specialization include:
- Assists persons to develop deep biblical and theological rationales for social justice initiatives.
- Equips persons with the skills needed to mobilize congregations for social justice work.
- Intentionally ensures that each student has a faculty advisor and/or a project mentor who possesses advanced graduate level training and/or practical experience in the area of social justice ministry.
- The topic of the final doctoral project and professional paper will be designed to relate to Community Advocacy and Social Justice Ministry
