Chose to Enroll
I was deeply drawn to Hood Theological Seminary, partly due to its extraordinary history and unwavering commitment to excellence. More importantly, there is no doubt in my mind that I was called to Hood Theological Seminary because it truly nourished my love, joy and resolve to minister beyond the walls of the traditional church, particularly on behalf of those in Scripture in Matt. 25:45-46, whom Jesus refers to as “the least of these.” HTS empowered me to meticulously weave together my profound lived experiences, professional career, and a life fully devoted to actualizing God’s beloved community. Consequently, I now understand the mystery of Franciscan friar and ecumenical teacher, Father Richard Rohr's contention: “The first half of life is discovering the script, and the second half is actually writing and owning it.” Hood Theological Seminary is the sole reason I found the courage and conviction to write and own a life transformed by God’s amazing love and grace.
Currently, Boris works tirelessly within Charlotte and the surrounding communities to confront issues related to the growing affordable housing crisis, including gentrification and displacement. Additionally, serving as a Habitat For Humanity International Board Director, is one of many specific ways he uses his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) degree with a specialization in community advocacy and social justice to deepen his calling.
As a United Methodist clergy, my time at Hood Theological Seminary was transformative both personally and professionally. The Doctor of Ministry program provided new perspectives that broadened and deepened my theological scholarship, enriching my understanding of ministry in ways I had not anticipated. The faculty at HTS were exceptional — engaged, challenging, and inspiring. They pressed me to think critically and explore new dimensions of faith and leadership.
One of the greatest gifts of my student experience was the HTS community. Our cohort began as strangers and quickly became lifelong friends and fellow laborers for the transformation of the world. The Doctor of Ministry coursework was rigorous yet practical, equipping me with tools I continue to apply daily as a university vice president and chaplain. From leadership development to navigating complex pastoral challenges, my time at HTS made me more effective and confident in my role.
Hood Theological Seminary is a place where both heart and mind are nurtured for ministry. It’s an experience I will carry with me for a lifetime.
I chose to attend Hood Theological Seminary for its esteemed rigor, rich African American history, and diverse theological foundation. My prayer was to see myself within God’s plan, further develop my calling, and learn to exegete Scripture in a way that affirms everyone’s place in the Kingdom of God. At Hood, I have been challenged not only to deepen my understanding of God’s Word but also to transform how I apply theology in my preaching, my love for myself, and my love for others. I chose the Community Advocacy and Social Justice specialization to expand my cultural understanding of ministry and enhance my professional work. Hood has introduced me to the concept of social entrepreneurship, which is vital for bridging resources, community, and faith to serve marginalized populations effectively. My passion for learning has been greatly enriched by the level of engagement and investment from Hood’s professors, administrators, and leadership.
I am excited to continue this transformative journey as I complete my Doctor of Ministry program, embracing every step of this path rooted in love, purpose, and family.
